When they think of electricity, most people probably think of many of the
appliances and electronic equipment in their homes, ranging from light bulbs to
refrigerators to computers. They also may think of the outlets, fuse boxes, and
wires that deliver the electricity, or even the static that builds up on clothes that
just come out of the dryer. Perhaps they think of something more grandiose, like
a bolt of lightning tearing across a stormy sky.
