Embryology provides an understanding of the process by
which the human body develops. The study of embryology is
essential for understanding topographical relationships in
gross anatomy, and for many congenital anomalies. Embryology
is a challenging subject because of the relative speed with
which changes in form occur over time. This situation is
compounded by the use of two-dimensional diagrams of fourdimensional
events. Furthermore, this is all set in relation to
descriptive terminology, which is likely to be unfamiliar to
the student.
