Parasitology, the study of parasites and their relationships to their hosts, is one of the most
fascinating areas of biology. The study of parasitism is interdisciplinary, encompassing
aspects of systematics and phylogeny, ecology, morphology, embryology, physiology,
biochemistry, immunology, pharmacology, and nutrition, among others. Newly developed
techniques in biochemistry and cellular and molecular biology have also opened significant
new avenues for research on parasites.
